Get creative with your camera

How to unlock the potential of your D-SLR

Wednesday 4th to Friday 6th November 2015 at Rivercatcher Luxury Holiday Cottages, Denbighshire, North Wales.

This is a three day (two nights) residential photography course in a luxury holiday cottage in the heart of the beautiful North Wales countryside, on the banks of the River Dee.

Under the expert guidance of myself and professional photographer, Jane Burkinshaw, you will gain the knowledge and confidence to move away from the automatic camera settings and explore more creative forms of photography.

You will discover the optimum settings for taking photographs in different light conditions, including indoors, outdoors, daytime and sunset (weather permitting). You will also have the opportunity to explore various types of photography, including portraits, landscape, architecture, still life and close up.

Two golden statues rise above The Central Piazza at Portmeirion, Gwynedd, with The Pantheon in the background. Photographed in October.

The highlight of the course will be a trip to the world famous Portmeirion village (pictured above in autumn), with its beautiful Italianate architecture, ornamental gardens and stunning coastal views. Jane and I will be with you every step of the way as you put your newly acquired knowledge and skills into use in this truly unique setting.

You will also discover how to give your photographs a professional edit using commonly available software and how to create eye-catching works of art to share and display.

Who is this course suitable for

Ideally you have a D-SLR (with interchangeable lenses) or one of the new, smaller Compact System Cameras (also with interchangeable lenses). The course will be geared towards people who mostly use the AUTO setting on their camera, or who have perhaps just started experimenting with the Aperture and Shutter Speed modes and would like to do so with more confidence. We will also cover how to shoot in Manual as well as how to use lots of other camera settings. Please get in touch if you would like to check if this course is suitable for you.
